History of the Homestead
Pr' Krač

The farm is 300 years old, and the tenth generation has lived there. Until World War II, there was a tavern and a shop here. The farm is a cultural monument of national importance. Today, it is included in the European project "House with Tradition". The farm also includes a distillery, which is located in a former blacksmith's shop, which operated during the time when the Sava River was navigable (they forged oxen carts that pulled cargo up the river).

At the initiative of the newly elected president of the Dolsko Tourist Association, Mr. Anton Čič, the association decided to organize a permanent exhibition art gallery in the 300-year-old bear house. Since the house itself is worthy of exceptional attention due to its venerable age and its history, such an activity will be all the more important.
A single-storey farmhouse was originally built around 1700. According to oral tradition, the first owner was Perdan from Ljubljana. There was also a smaller estate next to the house, which was sold to Lenček from an unknown source, due to the anger of the original owner, who was robbed of a particularly good pear by the villagers every year. The second owner, Lenček, was also involved in boating and fishing, in addition to farming, running a tavern and trading. At that time, wealthier and more progressive landowners on the Sava had their own large cargo boats, with which they transported sawn timber and planks down the Sava, sometimes even as far as Sisak. Along the way, they sold the timber and re-shipped various goods all the way to Croatia. At that time, the Sava flowed in two streams in our town. One stream flowed under the Lazoviški hills, and the other stream just below the village of Dolsko on the left bank.

Below this house still stands the Blacksmith's Shop, which was both a kind of port building and a stop on the boat route. It is also over 300 years old. It was used to shoe the oxen and horses that pulled the cargo boats up the Sava. These boatmen were almost the only means of transport in these Zasavje regions. On their way back from Croatia, these heavy cargo boats were pulled by several pairs of ox teams, upstream of the Sava. Goods were exchanged from place to place, and the boatmen traded with them. The journey lasted from early spring to late autumn, when they returned to the port of departure. Countless trials and sometimes accidents awaited them on the way. The second owner, Lenček, was supposedly also among these boatmen. One spring, he set off on a journey to Croatia with his assistants. His wife ran an inn and shop at home. According to old people, she supposedly hit the jackpot at that time (if these were not just assumptions) and during her husband's absence, she renovated the house and raised it into the building that still stands today. It was built by an Italian construction team, so some Baroque elements were also introduced into it. This can be seen on the facade and the columns inside the house. When her husband returned from his trip in late autumn, the building was mostly finished.

In the years after World War II, the current owners renovated the ceilings and on one of the beams we find the year 1708, which is supposed to mean that the house was renovated at that time. Through purchases and various transactions, the estate grew to 67 hectares of arable land and forests. This land and forests were managed more or less successfully by subsequent owners until World War II. After the war, however, they were affected by the agrarian reform, like many others, so that the estate was reduced to 45 hectares, 10 hectares of arable land and 5 hectares of forests. During the years when Lenček was managing the estate, a stable with granaries and cellars opposite the house was also built and renovated. The stables behind the house were built a little later. After 1800, the estate was bought by Rovšek – Vrbčev from Ribče. This family managed the estate for about 100 years, when the last Rovšek died at the age of about 40. His widow remarried and married Miro Medved, who was then a gunsmith in Vače pri Litiji. This is where the name “Pri Medvedu” or Kraču comes from. The estate was mainly managed by Medved's wife Ivana, and her son Medved Miro took over after her, who died in 1983. After him, his son Boris should have taken over the estate, but he had a fatal accident in 1981 at the age of 34. In 1895, there was a strong earthquake in our area and there is no mention anywhere that the building was damaged any more. In 1896, also at the initiative of Rovšek the Younger, the Dolsko Firefighters' Association was founded, of which he himself was the chief for many years. The storage room for the hand-held spray gun and tools was in the building opposite the house.
